Roger Dean Reineke was born on March 24, 1930 to Willard and Lillie (Jacobsen) Reineke in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was baptized at the Methodist Church in Hancock, Iowa. He attended the Hancock Schools and graduated with the Class of 1948.
He was united in marriage to Joan Emken on December 2, 1950 at the Silver Creek Church. Two children were born to this union: Robert and Kathy.
Roger farmed for the first three years of their marriage. He drove a truck for seven years and then returned to farming, spending the next thirty-five years doing what he loved. In the off seasons, he still drove a truck but also raised chickens, cows, and hogs.
He was a collector of toy tractors and enjoyed bowling and golfing. He loved to fish and would take the kids to the river. He also took fishing trips to Canada, South Dakota, and Minnesota. He loved to sit in his recliner and watch T.V., especially westerns, the Discovery Channel and the Food Channel, which fit in with his love of eating! He also liked to watch the Cubs, Iowa, Iowa State football, and watching Nebraska lose.
After he retired, he moved to Avoca. It was at his home in Avoca that he died on Saturday, November 21, 2009, having attained the age of seventy-nine years, seven months, and twenty-eight days. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Kathy.
He is survived by his wife of nearly fifty-nine years, Joan Reineke of Avoca, Iowa; his son Robert Reineke and his wife Donna of Treynor, Iowa; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren; son-in-law Bob Benson of Greeley, Colorado; other family members, and many friends.
Pastor Melissa Drake officiated the 11:30 AM memorial service on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca, Iowa. Serving as honorary casket bearers were Brian Reineke, Jeff Reineke, David Dixon, Denny Langer, Dennis Spector, Lynn Gronberg, and Doug Burmeister. Inurnment was held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Hancock, Iowa.
