Roland Edward McLaughlin, son of John and Margaret (Gessert) McLaughlin, was born on June 21, 1935 in Defiance, Iowa. He was one of eleven children born to his parents. He grew up in Shelby and graduated from Walnut High School with the class of 1954.
After graduation, he served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for most of the time over his 3 years. He was united in marriage to Peg Moore and to this union they had one daughter, Cheryl. Red enjoyed boating, camping and deer hunting. He would deer hunt every year. Red spent his whole life as a tile setter. He was employed by Hayden Tile and McKean’s.
On Sunday, January 15, 2023, Red passed away at Avoca Specialty Care in Avoca, Iowa, having attained the age of 87 years, 6 months and 25 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Peg; siblings Virginia, Frances, Robert, Maxine and Sharon; sister-in-law Kris McLaughlin.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter Cheryl; siblings Ray McLaughlin of Walnut, Iowa; Arlene (Ed) Andersen of Rochester, Minnesota; Ed McLaughlin of Fremont, Nebraska; Marge (Wade) Crow of Omaha, Nebraska; Joe (Mary) McLaughlin of Mission, Texas; brother-in-law Norman Sorrells of Walnut, Iowa; sister-in-law Jan McLaughlin of Omaha, Nebraska; nieces and nephews, other family and many friends.
