Ronald Algert Sandquist, a man of extraordinary compassion, integrity, generosity, and faith, died at 1:57 A.M. on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at Saint Therese at St. Odilia in Shoreview, Minnesota.
Born at 12:56 pm on September 24, 1940, at Midway Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Walter and Lillian Sandquist, he was delivered 4 minutes after his twin brother, Roger.
Ron, along with Roger and his older brother, John, grew up in the Como Park area of St. Paul. He was an extremely proud alumnus of Chelsea Heights Elementary and Murray High School, where he played football, basketball and trumpet, in the world's first ice skating band.
After graduating from Murray in 1958, Ron attended the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1962, with a bachelor's degree in business/finance. Following graduation he was hired and worked as an investment officer by Minnesota Mutual Life Insurance Company, which later became Securian. He retired 42 years later from his first and only job after college.
Ron met his wife Lynn in January 1969, and were married 7 months later. They were residents of Woodbury, MN since 1970. Along with Lynn, he was so thankful that they were able to care for each of their 5 grandchildren in their early years.
He was an active member at Woodbury Baptist Church, teaching junior high, middle school, and upper elementary Sunday School for several years, forging many valued friendships that lasted throughout his life.
Ron was a valued member of the church choir, served on several boards, and served as church moderator. He also coordinated and volunteered at Feed My Starving Children. He volunteered at Lifetrack Resources in the preschool program, especially serving at-risk children. He also 'sat in' as Santa there and at Woodbury Preschool at The Grove with Mrs. Claus (Lynn).
Ron had an eclectic mix of interests and hobbies. Ron was an avid runner, running every day during his lunch hour and completing each of the first three Twin Cities Marathons. He enjoyed golfing. He also continued honing his trumpeting skills, taking lessons in his 70s, during which time he also took up boxing training. He also developed interests in playing the spoons, drawing, and was an expert in making lefse.
Ron was preceded in death by wife Lynn (Weberg) Sandquist and his parents, Walter and Lillian.
Ron is survived by children Garrett (Kylee), Tim (Rita) Sandquist, and Tonya (Chad) Hughes; grandchildren Micah, Susanna, Russell, Emily Sandquist and Hank Hughes; brothers John (Barb) and Roger (Mary Lou) Sandquist; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. The Williams and Rockwoods are considered part of the family as well.
