Ronald Dale Steinkuehler was born August 23, 1943 in Denison, Iowa to Reinhardt and Vernette (Johannsen) Steinkuehler. He was raised in the Harlan and surrounding areas, attending Shelby, Tennant, and Harlan Schools before moving to California where he graduated from Fullerton Junior College in economics.

Ron was united in marriage 1964. Ron enlisted in the Army in 1966 serving as a helicopter service mechanic in Germany. He received the National Defense Service Medal (Sharpshooter) before being honorably discharged in 1972. They settled in Council Bluffs Iowa for many years before moving to Logan Iowa. Ron lived in various places. He loved to travel and would just start up residence if he really like the area.

Ron loved working with his hands and did several different jobs over the years. He started work as sale a rep for Frito Lay and Brothers Coffee. He did custom farm work for many farmers around the SW Iowa area. Ron always loved horses even after he sold his own you could find him at shows or auctions. A book or magazine about the subject was always close by. In his later years, he enjoyed fishing and always had a huge garden he took care of at his home in Chariton, Iowa. Generally, you could catch Ron in deep conversation with someone.

Ron passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018 in Avoca, Iowa after a long bout with cancer. He attained the age of 74 years, four months, and 15 days and is preceded in death by his parents.

Ron is survived by his children Brian Steinkuehler of Shenandoah, IA; Rose Steinkuehler of Harlan, IA; Sophia Garrett of Dow City, IA; grandson Mitchell Steinkuehler of Key West, FL; granddaughter Emma Preul of Dow City, IA; sisters Bayla (Skip) Marshall of Defiance, IA; Lou Ann Reno of Las Vegas, NV; Shirley (Jerome) Mumm of Harlan, IA; Barbara (Ray) Schleimer of Panama, IA; brothers Daryle (Judy) Steinkuehler of Okoboji, IA; Gary (Carolyn) Steinkuehler of Defiance, IA; many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
