Rosemary Hahn, daughter of Margaret Carmelita (Denning) and Francis Luke Green, was born on October 22, 1930 at Council Bluffs, Iowa. When Rosemary started grade school, she would ride her horse into Neola to school, she also attended Beebeetown Elementary school and then continued her education at St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Neola where she graduated with the class of 1948.
Rosemary was united in marriage to Leo Hahn on October 29, 1955 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Neola where she was working at the time for Fr. Joseph Shaw as the church secretary. She also worked as a secretary for Henry Rollins a lawyer in Neola. While making their home in Neola, Rosemary began her banking career at the Council Bluffs Savings Bank in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In 1958, Rosemary and Leo made their home on the Hahn family farm outside Earling, Iowa where they raised their two children: Mike and Mary Patricia who always went by her nickname Patti.
As the children grew older, Rosemary helped on the farm and later resumed her banking career working as a teller at Farmer’s Trust and Savings Bank in Earling and the Defiance State Bank in Defiance, Iowa.
Rosemary was very dedicated to both her family and her Catholic faith. She was a long time parish council member at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling and also a long time member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court of St. Katherine No. 226 of Earling. Rosemary loved watching the Big Joe Polka Show on television and playing cards with friends especially the game 500 where she could bid no trump and make it with ease.
After a serious accident involving her daughter Patti, Rosemary dedicated much of her life caring for her for over twenty-eight years. Rosemary and Leo enjoyed traveling and taking train trips out west and as well as south to Texas. She was known for her great cooking and always putting the needs of her friends and family above her own.
Rosemary passed away on February 1, 2019 at the Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa having attained the age of eighty-eight years, three months and ten days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Patti; brother Francis Green and sister Bernice Masur.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-three years Leo Hahn of Earling, Iowa; son Mike Hahn of Earling; grandsons Joseph Hahn and his wife Sarah of Des Moines, Iowa and James Hahn and his girlfriend Kristen Gillette of Denver, Colorado; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
