Russell "Rusty" John Buckley
March 10, 1949 — October 5, 2016
Russell John Buckley, son of Edward and Cecelia (Leinen) Buckley was born March 10, 1949 in Earling, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling and attended school at St. Joseph’s Catholic School graduating with the class of 1967. He entered the United States Army in May of 1968 served in Vietnam, he was honorably discharged in April of 1973.
Rusty was united in marriage to Anita Hoffmann. Four children were born to this union: Deanne, Lisa, John and Sara.
He purchased Skelly Oil from his father and drove the gas truck for many years. He worked various jobs throughout the years but one thing for sure he was always busy working with his hands. Whether it be working on cars, cutting trees, hauling campers or helping in the fields. Most recently, he drove truck for Panama Transfer and in 2015 he was able to retire but still held a full-time position.
Rusty was a member of the Earling Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years, Earling American Legion Post No. 615 and the Earling Knights of Columbus Council No. 1741. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed time fishing, hunting, bargaining at garage sales and camping with his friends and family. He made time to hang out with friends and enjoyed Sunday funday’s but most importantly loved being with his grandchildren.
Rusty died on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska surrounded by family attaining the age of sixty-seven years, six months and twenty-five days. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Ronald, Richard, and Robert.
He is survived by his children: Deanne and her husband Corey Miller of Urbandale, Iowa; Lisa and her husband Chad Adams of Ankeny, Iowa; John Buckley and his wife Liz of Earling, Iowa; Sara Buckley and her boyfriend Brett Seber of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his grandchildren: Lucas Buckley, Chris Miller, Alyssa Miller, Lexi Adams, Carson Buckley, Max Adams and Callie Buckley; his brother, Rex Buckley and his wife Irene of Harlan, Iowa; sisters Linda Buckley of Omaha, Nebraska and LuAnn Buckley of Earling, Iowa; his ex-wife Anita Buckley of Earling, Iowa; special friend Renoma Owens of Ankeny, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.
