Ruth A. Baron
November 23, 1917 — December 14, 2010
Ruth Ann Baron, the daughter of Frank and Cecil Cobb Maassen, was born in Harlan, Iowa on November 23, 1917. She attended grade school in Harlan and graduated from Harlan High School with the class of 1935. Ruth then continued her education at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa.
Ruth was united in marriage to Roy Baron on March 16, 1941 at her parents home in Harlan, Iowa. A daughter Lynn was born to this union. Ruth worked for a short time in her father’s dentist office, but for the most part, she was a stay at home mom and raised her daughter. She was a long time member of the Harlan Golf and Country Club, where she enjoyed playing golf, cards and their many social activities.
She was a baptized member of the Congregational United Church Of Christ in Harlan and its Priscilla Society. She was active in many of the church activities, especially making home made noodles. Ruth was also and active member of Chapter AP of P E O for over sixty-five years.
Ruth died on Tuesday December 14, 2010 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, twenty-one days after her 93rd birthday. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Roy on October 15, 2010. She is survived by her daughter Lynn Deasy of Palatine, IL, her sister Elizabeth Remein of Minocqua, WI, other relatives and many friends.
Pastor Donna Ewert officiated the 11:00 AM graveside service at the Harlan Cemetery and the 11:30 AM funeral service at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Harlan. Honorary casket bearers were Martin and Mary Jane Zaccone, Howard and Rhoda Henriksen, Linda Simmons, Sue Daeges, Cheryl Holloway, Dee Thoms, Ruth Ridge, Ann D’Arcy, Janice Tiarks, and Dale and Dee Smith. Serving as casket bearers were: Tom Zaccone, Joe Zaccone, Joel Dirks, Mike Monahan, Fritz Tiarks, and Eddie Roos.
