Ruth Virginia Christensen, the daughter of Ralph and Karolina (Dethlefs) Brown, was born in James Township, Iowa on March 29, 1919. She was baptized and confirmed in the Avoca Lutheran Church. Ruth attended school in the Hancock area. After her schooling she was employed by the Hancock Telephone Company.

Ruth was united in marriage to Milton "Chris" Christensen on August 31, 1974 in the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. After their marriage they moved to Huntington, West Virginia where Milton was employed with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. They remained there until his retirement in 1989. They moved back to the Avoca area in 1991. Ruth enjoyed working in her garden, raising African Violets, reading and doing crewel embroidery.

Ruth died on Monday, October 22, 2007 at the Avoca Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Avoca, Iowa having attained the age of eighty-eight years, six months and twenty-three days. She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Elmer Piittmann, her second husband Chris, sister Esther Neighbors and brothers: Kenneth, Wilbert and Lawrence Brown.

Ruth is survived by her sister, Dorothy Hildebrand of Hancock, Iowa; her sister in law, Eleanor Brown of Avoca, Iowa; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held on October 24, 2007 at 10:30 A.M. at the Pauley Jones Funeral Home, Avoca Chapel, with Deacon David Gobeli of the Hancock United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery at Hancock, Iowa. Serving as Honorary Bearers were Randy Brown and Darrell Dreager. Casket Bearers were Gary Brown, Doug Brown, Mike Harris, Greg Brown, James Brown and Rick Brown
