Ruth Ann Corey Profile Photo
Ruth Ann Corey was born outside Avoca, Iowa, on November 21, 1926, the daughter of Charles and Irna Knachstedt Anderson. She attended school in Walnut and graduated with the class of 1944. On November 22, 1946, Ruth married Bruce Barnett Corey, in Walnut, and to this union the couple was blessed with six children: Catherine, Linda, James, Marcia, Richard and Karen.

Ruth and Bruce moved from Walnut in 1957 and relocated to southern California. She worked as a receptionist for Bollenbacher & Kelton Construction Company in San Diego, California, and Honeycutt Builders in LaMesa, California, before retiring in 1993. Her last visit to Iowa was in September, 2001, and was especially memorable since she was stranded for a time due to the terrorist attacks.

Ruth loved taking photos and displayed them in huge scrapbooks and all over her home. There was hardly a space anywhere that did not have someone’s photo. She was proud to show anyone who came to the house her pictures and tell the stories that went with each one. She enjoyed flowers, and liked having flowers around her. She also enjoyed traveling and line dancing in her younger years.

Ruth died on Sunday, January 1, 2017, while under hospice care in San Diego having attained the age of ninety years, one month, and eleven days. She was preceded in death by her husband; her children, James Corey, Marcia Barnett, and Karen Lower; her brother Andrew Anderson, and her sister Elsie Ahders.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Catherine Lopez of Lakeside, California, and Linda and her husband Eric Hansen of Encinitas, California; son, Richard Corey and his wife Kathy of Henderson, Texas; her daughter-in-law Robin Corey of Henderson, Texas; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren plus a great-great grandchild that is due any day; numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
