Marcella “Sally” Frances Leuschen was born on June 14, 1931 to Joseph and Marie (Mueller) Henscheid in Westphalia, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church where she remained a life-long member. She graduated from St. Boniface Catholic School with the Class of 1949.
On November 13, 1951, Sally was united in marriage to Roman Anthony Leuschen at St. Boniface. They became parents to nine children: Jane, Sue, Mary, Carol, Roger, Russell, Eileen, Amy, and Ryan.
Roman and Sally made their home on the family farm outside of Westphalia. During that time, Sally was an active member of the church and community. Sally enjoyed singing and was a member of the church choir for many years. She also enjoyed gardening and visiting with family and friends.
In April of 2015, Sally became a resident of Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan, Iowa. It was there that she died on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the age of eighty-four years, one month, and nine days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Carol Hardy, brother Virgil Henscheid, and sisters Marie Case and Verena Schomers.
She is survived by her husband of nearly sixty-four years, Roman Leuschen of Westphalia, Iowa; children: Jane and her husband William Grote of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Sue Leuschen of Houston, Texas, Mary and her husband Robert Maley of Omaha, Nebraska, Roger Leuschen and his wife Robin of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Russell Leuschen and his girlfriend Lisa Ambrose of Omaha, Nebraska, Eileen and her husband Keith Schwery of Panama, Iowa, Amy and her husband David Loseke of Cave Creek, Arizona, and Ryan Leuschen and his wife Melissa of Panama, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; son-in-law Steve Hardy of Des Moines, Iowa; sisters Iona Smith of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Jane and her husband Leo Rau of Omaha, Nebraska; brother Urban Henscheid of Westphalia, Iowa; sister-in-law Theresa Henscheid of Westphalia, Iowa; other family members and many friends.
