Sam R. Beam was born at Denison, Iowa, July 31, 1967, the son of Ray and Mildred Wiegel Beam. The family resided at Berne, Iowa until moving to Dow City in 1978 where Sam graduated from the Dow City-Arion High School with the class of 1985. Following high school he moved to Garden City, Kansas, where he was employed at IBP for two years. He then returned to Dow City and was employed for a Hog Confinement Company for six years. In 1995 he resumed his employment with IBP in Denison, now Tyson Foods, where he was currently employed. In 2005 Sam moved to his acreage north of Dow City where he enjoyed raising his dogs and other farm animals. Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting, fishing, going on trail rides with his horses, and, on many Saturdays, he could be found attending the auctions at Denison Livestock Auction. Sam died early Friday morning, August 29, 2008, at his home in rural Dow City, Iowa, at the age of 41 years and 28 days. Including his father, Ray Beam, Sam was also preceded in death by two sisters, Sandra Beam and infant, Roxanne Beam, and two brothers, Steve and Stacey Beam. Those remaining to cherish his memory include two sons, Dakota and Jericho Beam of Clarksville, Tennessee, his mother, Mildred Beam of Dow City, six brothers and sisters, Stanley Beam, Sheila Beam, Scott Beam, Shirlene and husband, John Simon and Suzette and husband Terry Kroll all of Dow City and Stuart Beam and wife Carol of Defiance, Iowa, special friend, Kim Gritten of Denison, other relatives and friends. Graveside funeral services and burial were held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at the Dow City Cemetery, Dow City, Iowa, with Dan C. Pfannebecker conducting the service. Those serving as pallbearers included John Simon, Terry Kroll, Chris Ten Eyck, Randy Ten Eyck, Kenny Beam and Paul Laubscher. Following the services the family invited everyone to join them at the Dow City Community Building for fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by the Dow City United Methodist Women.
