Sandra Lee Maxwell Stamp, daughter of Harry Wayne and Eva Ruth (Novinger) Maxwell, was born on January 17, 1938, in Shenandoah, Iowa. She started her schooling in the Shenandoah grade school but when her parents purchased the Bartcher Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa, she continued her education in Denison, graduating with the class of 1956. After high school, Sandra attended Iowa State University where she was a cheerleader and obtained her degree in Applied Art. Sandra then moved to Kansas City where she took a job as an artist for Hallmark. She then decided to return to Ames, Iowa and earned her teaching certificate at Iowa State. Shortly after, she taught art at Southeast Junior High in Iowa City. On February 23, 1963, Sandra was united in marriage to David Lee Stamp and they then made their home back in Ames while David was completing grad school.
They were blessed with 5 children: Elizabeth Ann, Matthew Maxwell and Mark David, Sarah Ruth and Rebekah Jean. Sandra taught art at various schools but her favorite job was being a stay at home mom raising her children. In 1985 the family settled in Denison, Iowa and after her children grew up she returned to teaching art at St. Rose of Lima Catholic School for six years. Family was always first for Sandra. She prepared delicious homemade meals daily, sewed her children’s clothes, was always present at any activity her children were involved in and provided them with unconditional love. She taught her children the importance of helping others no matter the circumstance. Her grandchildren were fortunate to experience that same kind of love and devotion and being at their activities was a favorite to her. Outside of spending time with her family, she enjoyed playing bridge, watching tennis, cooking, reading and doing crossword puzzles.
Sandra died at her home in Denison surrounded by her family on November 25, 2017, having attained the age of seventy-nine years, ten months and 8 days. She had endured a horrible disease for 17 years and fought for every moment to be with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Nathan Morgan.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-four years, David Lee Stamp of Denison, Iowa; her children: Elizabeth Ann Stamp and Mark Dirks of Denison, Iowa; twins, Matthew Maxwell Stamp and his wife Kimberly of Elk Horn, Nebraska and Mark David Stamp of Tampa, Florida; Sarah Ruth and her husband Dave Wiebers of Denison, Iowa and Rebekah Jean Stamp and her husband Peter Frederick of Hamilton, Montana; her grandchildren: Max Cochran; Evan, Charlie, Luke and Harley Wiebers; Andrew and Katie Frederick; Jacob and Hannah Stamp; and Eva Stamp; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
