Scott Chapman was born in Denison, Iowa, February 6, 1964, the son of Harold and Elaine Namanny Chapman. He was raised on the Chapman Dairy Farm in rural Arion and received his education in the Denison Public Schools from which he graduated with the class of 1982. Following high school he attended Iowa State University in Ames for one year. Upon completion of his education Scott was employed with PDI in Des Moines, Iowa, for one year before returning to Denison. In 1987, Scott began his career as a technician with the NRCS in Denison where he was currently employed. On September 9, 1995, Scott was united in marriage with Gayle Renee Moore at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison, Iowa. Their union was blessed with one daughter, Maggie. They made their home on their farm south of Denison where, in conjunction with farming, Scott continued his employment with NRCS. He loved anything and everything to do with farming having a great passion for his cattle herd that began with his first 4-H calf. He took great pride in everything he did and considered farming to be as important to him as his family. In his spare time he enjoyed attending farm sales, watching bull riding and attending Maggie’s activities. He was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church in Denison where he was and Elder, Deacon, served on the Finance, Nominating and Property and Maintenance Committees, Youth Group Leader and attended multiple Mission Trips. Other memberships he enjoyed include 4-H and FFA in his youth, Crawford County Pork Producers and Cattleman Association. Scott died Monday evening, July 15, 2013, from injuries suffered in a tractor accident on his farm. He died doing what he loved, driving the tractor he loved on the farm he loved. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 49 years, 5 months and 9 days. Scott’s generosity in life continued in his death with his gift of life to others through organ donation. Scott will lovingly be remembered by his wife Gayle Chapman and daughter Maggie Chapman, of Denison, Iowa; parents Harold and Elaine Chapman of Arion, Iowa; brothers: Bill and wife Shelly Chapman of Storm Lake, Iowa, Stacy Chapman of Denison, Iowa and Tim Chapman of Des Moines, Iowa; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Steve and Sandra Moore of Overland Park, Kansas; brother-in-law Greg Moore of Lenexa, Kansas; nephews: Josh and Nick Chapman of St. Joseph, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 19, 2013, at the United Presbyterian Church, Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. Paul D. Seefeldt officiating. Music for the service was provided by Glenn Freese singing “On Eagle’s Wings” and the congregation singing “God Of the Ages” with Ann Voggesser serving as organist. Recorded selections included “Amarillo By Morning” and “Till We Meet Again”. Tim Baughman served as Honorary Pallbearer. Pallbearers included Scott Claussen, Karen Claussen, Allen Olson, Joe Henkelman, Kurt Chapman and Bob Chapman. Interment was at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens, Denison, Iowa. Following the interment everyone was invited to join the family at the church for fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by the United Presbyterian Women. A scholarship fund for Maggie has been established and donations may be left at Bank Iowa in Denison. A visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison.
