Shari Lynn Petersen was born on February 11, 1953 to Carroll and Gloria (Wiig) Kallevig in Manning, Iowa. She attended the Irwin-Kirkman Community Schools and graduated with the Class of 1971. She furthered her education at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
On February 6, 1988, Shari was united in marriage to Alan Petersen at the First Assembly of God Church in Harlan, Iowa.
Shari worked as a caregiver to her brother-in-law, Gary Petersen, and several other people throughout the years. Her passions were riding motorcycles, garage saling and finding special things for her nieces, and grocery shopping. She loved couponing, refunding, and running errands for people. If she was able to help someone, she did it gladly. Her "baby" was Gordy - her dog that went everywhere with her.
Shari was diagnosed with cancer and lost her battle against the disease on Thursday, November 8, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa. She had attained the age of fifty-nine years, eight months, and twenty-eight days.
She is survived by her husband Alan Petersen of Irwin, Iowa; mother Gloria and father Carroll Kallevig of Irwin; sisters Jeanne and her husband Greg Taylor of Fresno, California and Jennifer and her husband Ron French of Manilla, Iowa; brother Sheldon Kallevig and his wife Teri of Kansas City, Missouri; nieces and nephews, other family members and many friends.
Rev. Ted Sieck officiated the 11:00 AM funeral service on Monday, November 12, 2012 at the Church of Christ in Irwin, Iowa. Honorary casket bearers were Bill Burger, Allen Schneider, Ray Murray, Gary Petersen, Jerry Nelson, and Larry Gundy. Serving as casket bearers were Ron French, Danny Mickelson, Jon Hansen, John Kimball, Mike Cain, and Ronnie Gau. Interment was held at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Irwin.
