Sharon Gayle Hartvigsen, daughter of Leonard and Velma (Bristol) Wohlhutter, was born March 14, 1935 in Corley, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Harlan High School with the class of 1954.
On August 28, 1954, Sharon was united in marriage to George Hartvigsen at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton, Iowa. Four children were born to this union: Karla, Timothy, Dan and Kevin. Sharon worked many years at West Central Development in Harlan, Iowa as an outreach coordinator. She also worked at Salem Lutheran Home and helped coordinate the Meal on Wheels program in Elk Horn, Iowa. She was a long time member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton.
Sharon enjoyed sports, watching baseball on TV and listening to local sports on KNOD with Ron Novotny. She was a Facebook fanatic, and always had “likes” as well as comments to add to her many friends’ wall. She would stay up-to-date using Facetime with her family, especially with her sister and son Tim. Sharon journaled almost daily. She loved looking back at who came to visit, what the weather was like and even what they had for lunch, she always ended it with "good visit"! She loved time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and playing cards with them.
Sharon died surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska attaining the age of eighty-two years, three months and one day. In addition to her biological mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband George, son Dan Hartvigsen, grandson Jacob Hartvigsen, sister Twyla Johnson and stepmother Anne Lippold Wohlhutter.
She has left to cherish her memory, her children Karla Roecker of Harlan, Iowa; Timothy Hartvigsen of Elk Horn, Iowa; Kevin Hartvigsen and his wife Tracy of Audubon, Iowa; daughter-in-law Carol Hartvigsen of Kimballton, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister Janelle Mein of Johnston, Iowa; brother-in-law Duane Johnson of Des Moines, Iowa; other family members and friends.
