Sharon Marquardt

Sharon Marquardt was born at Kiron, Iowa, June 15, 1942 the daughter of Bayard and Lillie Schultz Johnson.  She was received into God’s Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism when she was an infant at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa, and confirmed in her Christian Faith there in 1956. Sharon was raised on the farm north of Kiron and received her education in the Odebolt schools.  Following high school she attended the Iowa School of Beauty in Des Moines where she received her Cosmetologist License.  She began her cosmetology career at Elaine’s Beauty Shop in Denison.On December 29, 1968, Sharon was united in marriage with Lyle L. Marquardt at Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron, Iowa.  They made their home in Denison where their union was blessed with one daughter, Toni.  After her marriage Sharon owned her own beauty shop in Denison and was a loving housewife and mother.  She then owned and operated Fashion Crossroads in Denison and later worked in the Fabric Department at Wal-Mart from which she retired in 1998 to care for her parents. In her leisure time she enjoyed reading and quilting. She spent the last two years making quilts and donating them to the Sienna Francis Homeless Shelter in Omaha. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison.With her loving family at her side, Sharon died peacefully at her home in Denison Tuesday morning, April 19, 2016.  At the time of her death she had been blessed with 73 years, 10 months and 4 days.Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Bayard and Lillie Johnson, one brother, Kenneth Johnson and a brother-in-law, Ed Wilkinson.Those remaining to cherish her memory include her husband Lyle Marquardt of Denison, Iowa; daughter Toni Marquardt of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and special “second daughter” Jill Peters of Carroll, Iowa; sisters: Beverly (Larry) Jaksoniak of Littleton, Colorado and twin Karen Wilkinson of Shelby, Montana; her two favorite dogs: Precious and Brody; other relatives and friends.Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2016 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa with Rev. David Loeschen and Vicar Isaac Johnson officiating. Congregational hymns were “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace” with Diane Furne serving as organist. A solo “The Old Rugged Cross” was sung by Vicar Isaac Johnson. Pallbearers were Curt Schultz, Jerry Buller, Jim Petersen, Brad Lundell, Steve Stoll and Ken Willems. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, Kiron, Iowa. Immediately following services everyone was invited to join the family for fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by Our Savior Women’s Guild.
