Sharon Dale Wharton, of Avoca, Iowa, died Thursday, November 23, 2023, at home. Sharon was born on March 16, 1943, in Gentry County, Missouri. The daughter of Retha and Veryl McCall. Sharon graduated high school in Albany, Missouri.
On May 26, 1962, Sharon married Jim Wharton in Albany, Missouri. They spent their first night in Marshalltown, Iowa and had Taylor's maid-rite. They were blessed with two children: Derek and Shawn and have celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Sharon had a great love for her family. She enjoyed being a homemaker and mother to her boys. She especially enjoyed attending all of their athletic events and was a proud supporter of the AvoHa athletic programs. She was Jim's most supportive & (critical) fan! lol Sharon enjoyed the 25+ years she and Jim went to Arizona for the winter months and the many friends they met there. She always looked forward to her weekly coffee time with her close friends. Being a grandmother to her 6 grandchildren 3 great grandchildren was one of her greatest joys! The whole family loved it when she made her famous spaghetti. There was always laughter in the room when Sharon was around!
She was preceded in death by her parents Veryl and Retha; step-parents Edith McCall and Cleo Davis; siblings Max, Rex, Eleanor, Evlyn and Gary; sisters and brothers-in-law Jean, Billy, C.B. and J.B..
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Jim; and her two children Derek (Traci) Wharton of Indianola, Iowa; and Shawn Wharton of Panora, Iowa; grandchildren Tucker (Mikayla) Wharton of Milo Iowa; Molly (Kirk) Hudson of Des Moines, Iowa; Tanner Wharton of Des Moines, Iowa; Trevor (Raelyn) Wharton of Indianola, Iowa; and Abby and Ele Wharton of Johnson Iowa; great-grandchildren Bowen and Sylvie Wharton and Maverick and baby Hudson due December 2023; siblings Marilyn (Bob) Younger of Waukee, Iowa; Charles (Rita) McCall of Kansas City, Missouri; Madelyn Lundy of Gladstone, Missouri; nieces and nephews, other family and many friends.
