Shirley June Quirk was born September 23, 1925 to Jake and Mabel (Stuhr) Schwensen at their farm in Minden, Iowa. She graduated from Minden High School as Valedictorian with the Class of 1943.
Shirley began working in Council Bluffs, Iowa as an accountant before she met Eugene "Gene" Quirk. The couple was married on December 15, 1945 at the United Church of Christ in Minden. The couple made their home in Minden and Shirley began working for the post office. They had two daughters: Terri and Lori.
After a few years, the family moved to a farm outside Minden where Gene continued to farm and Shirley stayed home to help out around the farm and raise their children. She was a loving mother and loving person. She never complained and was very caring. Shirley was also a long time member of the United Church of Christ in Minden.
After the farm was sold, Gene and Shirley moved back into town and Gene began working at Jim and Dean�s Town and Country Market in Council Bluffs. After Gene�s death in 1991, Shirley sold their home in town but moved to an apartment just down the street. It wasn�t until about ten years ago when Shirley moved to Bellevue, Nebraska to be closer to her mother and her daughter Lori.
Shirley moved to Hillcrest Country Estates in Papillion, Nebraska and this is where she died on Friday, March 16, 2012 having attained the age of eighty-six years, five months and twenty-two days. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene and her parents.
She is survived by her daughters Terri Thompson of Shelby, Iowa and Lori and her husband Darrell Charlton of Bellevue, Nebraska; nieces and nephews; cousins and friends.
Pastor Brian Wohlhuter officiated the 11:00 am memorial service at the United Church of Christ in Minden, Iowa on Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Honorary pallbearers were: John Stuhr, Earl Williams, Lon Ring, Randy Nielsen, Steve Ploen, Kent Beebe, Randy Price, Roger Dollen, Mitch Dollen, Todd Williams and Brad Williams. Inurnment was held at the Minden Cemetery in Minden.
