Silverius Joseph Muenchrath, son of Henry and Dora (Goeser) Muenchrath was born on May 11, 1920, on a farm outside of Earling, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Earling and attended St. Josephs Catholic Schools.
On January 9, 1946, Silverius was united in marriage to Mariann Rauterkus at St. Josephs Catholic Church. Seven children were born to this union: Ronald, Thomas, Michael, Connie, Patricia, Mary, and Alice. After their wedding, Silverius and Mariann made their home outside of Earling where Silverius farmed until 1976 when he and Mariann retired and moved into Earling.
Silverius loved his family and was very proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildrens accomplishments. He was a charismatic person and enjoyed visiting with his friends and family, and could always recall specific dates off the top of his head.
As Silverius grew older, his kids became concerned with his driving and took his car keys away. Silverius was too smart to allow that to stop him from driving so he began driving his gator around town and even put over 70 miles on during one day. After the kids took the gator keys away they thought they had solved that problem, but Silverius still wouldnt give up the luxury of driving so he began driving his lawnmower around instead.
Silverius loved the land and even after he retired from farming enjoyed being outdoors. After moving to Earling, he grew roses and many different colors of tulips. He was very proud of his flowers and enjoyed showing his flowerbeds to others.
Silverius died on Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, having attained the age of eighty-nine years, nine months, and twenty-one days. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Loretta Watje and Veronica Muenchrath; and his brothers Michael and Ivo.
