Stephen Paul Gross, son of Melvin and Constance Kay (Clark) Gross, was born on September 16, 1976 in Harlan, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa and attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Earling through the fifth grade. Stephen went on to attend Harlan Community Schools and graduated with the class of 1995.
After high school, Stephen worked with various construction companies. He also attended Bellevue University and graduated with a degree in Computer Information Services. Finding his passion for electrical work at various construction companies, he then attended the IBEW Local 22 electrical union in Omaha, Nebraska for his training to become a licensed electrician. He then became an independent electrical contractor working throughout western Iowa and eastern Nebraska.
Stephen was an old soul by those that knew him best. He loved walking old country cemeteries and admiring all the hand carved grave markers. He also loved older homes and found his dream Victorian/Craftsman period home in Shelby, Iowa. He was very proud of it and had dreams to make it an even grander home. He also adored old country music and would often listen to it remembering his father.
Two years prior to his passing, he was involved in a serious accident and was told his chances of walking were minimal. That did not deter him one bit. He not only wanted to walk again -- he wanted to work again.
During his time at Immanuel Rehab in Omaha and then at On With Life in Ankeny, Iowa, Stephen was given daily therapy sessions for his mind and body. Although the work was hard, it was never enough for Steve. He signed up for every additional physical therapy session he could attend and within six months again was walking and working again. He also shared a passion with many of the Gross family members of paranormal activity and shows about paranormal activity. In his free time, he enjoyed working on old sports cars, fishing with his buddies and water sports with his boat. Stephen shared the last 9 years of his life with Angie Rust and her daughter Emma.
Stephen died on June 10, 2017 as the result of an auto accident in Minden, Iowa attaining the age of forty years, eight months and twenty-five days. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother Stacen Gross and his wife Molly of Bellevue, Nebraska; his sister Annessa Gross and her husband Michael Zehner of Logan, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
