Steven Craig Larsen was born on December 6, 1949 to Ivan and Alice (Chipman) Larsen in Harlan, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan and grew up in a loving family with his parents, brother Gailyn, and sister Diane. He attended Harlan Community Schools until the age of sixteen. He attended a Janitorial School in Glenwood, Iowa before returning home. Steven’s adult years have been spent in various centers that care for special needs individuals. He lived at the Country Care Center near Harlan for ten years and has lived at the Glenwood Resource Center for the past thirty years. He was surrounded there by amazing people who worked to make Steven’s life comfortable and happy.
As a child, Steven loved living on the farm. He had 4-H cattle, he loved cleaning the barns, feeding the pigs, driving a tractor, and most of all, mowing lawn on his “rider”. He enjoyed family get-togethers with his aunts, uncles, and cousins. He loved riding his bicycle and could be found at the neighbor’s house sitting on the porch with his old friend Emil Krohn.
Steven was a very loving individual who thrived on attention from his friends and family. He also thrived on the attention that he was given at Glenwood Resource Center by the staff of very caring, competent people who truly loved Steven and will miss him, too.
Steven died on Monday, September 14, 2015 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of sixty-five years, nine months, and eight days. He was preceded in death by his parents Ivan and Alice and his brother Randy.
He is survived by his brother Gailyn Larsen and his wife Linda of York, Pennsylvania and Longboat Key, Florida; sister Diane and her husband Tom Forbes of Carroll, Iowa; four nephews; two nieces; and many cousins and friends.
