Steven Pankonen
March 25, 1954 — June 16, 2022
Steven Douglas Pankonen, son of Carl and Vadis (McCurdy) Pankonen, was born on March 25, 1954 in Pipestone, Minnesota. Steve grew up in Pipestone and graduated from Pipestone High School with the class of 1972. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Pipestone.
Steve was blessed with three sons: Miles, Matt and Marty. He worked for the Star Newspaper in Pipestone and moved to Avoca in 1973. He worked for Dar’s Repair in Avoca and later Zimmerman Oil Company for many years. He loved watching nascar in his garage with friends, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings and enjoyed watching Western movies and TV shows.
On Thursday, June 16, 2022, Steve passed away surrounded by his family while at home under hospice care having attained the age of 68 years, 2 months and 22 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Vadis; siblings Terry, Brenda, Patricia, Ricky, Lori and Coby. Left to cherish his memory are his sons Miles (Sara) Pankonen of Ames, Iowa; Matt Pankonen of Dawson, Minnesota; Marty (Steph) Pankonen of Clara City, Minnesota; 4 grandchildren; siblings Wilda Edgecomb of Avoca, Iowa; Linda Pankonen of Pipestone, Minnesota; Debra Pankonen of Pipestone, Minnesota; Scott Pankonen of Mount View, California; Todd Pankonen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; many nieces and nephews, other family and many friends.
