Stuart O'Hara

Stuart Lynn O’Hara, son of Donald and Kathleen (Collings) O’Hara, was born on August 6, 1967 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was baptized at the United Church of Christ also in Council Bluffs. The family relocated several times while Stuart was growing up and he attended schools in Syracuse, Nebraska; Nebraska City, Nebraska; Irwin-Kirkman, Iowa; San Antonio, Texas; as well Altoona and Bedford, Iowa.
While growing up, Stuart worked with his father helping cook at the Elk’s Club in Nebraska City; the Bedford Country Club and at O’Hara’s in Irwin. He was married and welcomed 8 children into the world: Tyson, Sabrina, Danielle, Joshua, Jayme, Jeremy, Jacob and Jenna. He then moved to the Des Moines area where he worked for several years for Perfect Cut out of Ankeny, Iowa installing irrigation systems.
He returned to Irwin and it was there that he met Mara Barratt and they later married on October 6, 2011. Their family grew again with the addition of Mara’s children: Tommy, Samantha and Alexis. Mara and Stuart owned and operated O’Hara’s Steak House in Irwin.
Stuart loved life and lived it to its fullest. He had lots of “toys” to occupy his time but loved playing with his guns and cars the most. His lifestyle took a toll on his body and he committed himself the last four weeks of his life to sobriety and re-establishing his relationship to God. He knew the only way to make his life better was to change who he was in the past and he loved what he saw with the changes he made.
Stuart died on September 10, 2016 at the Myrtue Memorial Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa having attained the age of forty-nine years, one month and four days. He was preceded in death by his father and his Maltese, Scrappy.
He is survived by his wife Mara O’Hara of Irwin; children: Tyson Reed and his wife Chandra of Springfield, Missouri; Sabrina and her husband Adam Wright of Bellevue, Nebraska; Danielle Matheny and her fiancé Raymond Jenkins of New Market, Iowa; Joshua O’Hara of Omaha, Nebraska; Jayme O’Hara of Baxter, Iowa; Jeremy O’Hara of Morris, Minnesota; Jacob O’Hara Glendale, Arizona; Jenna O’Hara of Durango, Colorado; Tommy Bomstad and his fiancé Nikki Mowery of Norwalk, Iowa; Samantha Bomstad and her partner Heather Wittrock of Carroll, Iowa and Alexis Bomstad and her partner David Owens of Carroll; 11 grandchildren: Gunner, Audrey, Bryn, Cason, Sage, A. J., Ashtyn, Austin, Owen, Eli and Adam; his mother Kathleen O’Hara of Baxter; sisters and brothers: Donella Anderson of Omaha; Annette Condon of Lincoln, Nebraska; Ray O’Hara and his wife Cindy of Dripping Springs, Texas and Kelly O’Hara and his wife GiGi of Omaha; nieces and nephews; cousins; other family members including Riley and Scrapper at home and many many friends.
