Sue Kelly was born in Bellflower, California, July 14, 1949, the daughter of Marlin and Betty Bales Herbert. She was raised in Chino, California where she received her education. In 1966, Sue was united in marriage with John Kelly at Chino, California and their union was blessed with two children, Brenda and Jason. The family resided in California until moving to Denison, Iowa, in 1971. From 1972, until retiring because of rheumatoid arthritis in 2003, Sue was employed at Farmland Foods for 31 years. She spent her retirement years in Denison. Through the years Sue had many interests that occupied her free time including, yard work, horseback riding, camping, sunbathing, dancing to country music, caring for her dogs and most importantly, she was happiest while spending time with her family. Even with her debilitating arthritis her family will remember her determination to work as long as she could and her cheerful demeanor. Sue died suddenly, while undergoing a heart procedure, Friday, February 8, 2008, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 58 years, 6 months and 24 days. Including her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her companion and fiancée of 14 years, Gene Meyer, one brother, Marlin Herbert, Jr., one infant sister, Sally Ann Herbert, two nieces and one nephew. Those remaining to cherish her memory include two children, Brenda and husband, Keith Crouch of Deloit, Iowa, and Jason Kelly and wife, Amanda of Denison, 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, six siblings, Floyd Herbert and wife, Lila of Schleswig, Iowa, Joy and husband, Don Lafrentz of Kiron, Iowa, Marlene Helms of Council Bluffs, Iowa, James Herbert, David Herbert and Robert Herbert and wife, Beth all of Denison, Iowa, sister-in-law, Fran Herbert of Denison, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 11, 2008, at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. Alberta Ervin officiating. Following cremation, Sue will be entrusted to her family. Following the services the family invited everyone in attendance to join them at Cronks in Denison for a luncheon and time of fellowship.
