Susan Kay Greer, daughter of Edward and Edythe Schweiso, was born May 15, 1956 at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, lowa. She attended grade school in Manilla and then in Irwin after the family moved.
Susan graduated from Irwin-Kirkman High School in 1974. Shortly thereafter she met her soul mate Gary Greer on a blind date arranged by friends. Gary and Susan were married at the Harlan United Methodist Church on September 11, 1976. Two children, Melinda and Kelly, were born of their union.
Susan and Gary made a living farming near Kirkman and Harlan as they raised their children. In addition to being a dedicated wife, homemaker, mother, and later grandmother, Susan held many titles. She worked at and managed the Rosman Glendale Clubhouse, was a teacher's helper at Kirkman Head Start, then worked at Variety Distributors once her children were older. Susan gave much of her time to others-as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts, with Concerned Inc. teaching scrapbooking, and with the lowa Community Kitchen where she helped feed those in her community for many years. Susan enjoyed gardening and landscaping and was especially creative at crafting, sewing, crochet, knitting, and scrapbooking. She was known for creating handmade birthday and Christmas cards and passed many of her talents to her daughter, Melinda. Susan and Melinda spent many hours together crafting and working to make Melinda's house a home.
After a battle with cancer, Susan passed away in her home surrounded by her family on November 29, 2023 attaining the age of 67 years, 6 months, and 14 days. She is survived by her husband Gary Greer of Harlan, children Melinda Greer and Kelly (Sarah) Greer, both of Harlan, grandchildren Scarlett McGuinness, Savannah and Sophia Greer of Harlan, siblings Keith (Pat) Schweiso of Defiance, Richard (Lana) Schweiso of Irwin, Diana (Doug) Redinbaugh of Hancock, Anna (Dave) Schwarte of Irwin, sisters-in-law Suzanne Rasmussen of Kirkman and Marian (Clayton) Bretey of Harlan, brother-in-law David (Jodi) Greer of Ft.
