On July 23, 1947, Susan E. Ronnfeldt, was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa to John and Clara (Schuttloffel) Scheffler. Susan was baptized at the Methodist Church in Hancock and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Avoca. She attended grade school and high school in Avoca and graduated from AvoHa High School in 1965. After high school, she attended beauty school in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated in June of 1966. She was united in marriage to Charles Ronnfeldt on June 25, 1967, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca. To this union, they received double the luck as twin daughters, Erin and Kara, were born on St. Patrick’s Day.
Susan worked as a hairstylist in Omaha and Harlan before opening her own beauty salon in the basement of her house, where she would be open for business for the next 25 years. Susan was a well-rounded woman and served on various committees throughout the community and area. Some of her involvements were on the following committees/organizations: Eastern Star, Zoning Committee, Avoca Promotions, High School Choir Director at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sunday School Teacher, Iowa West Foundation Board, and Iowa Western Community College Education Committee member. She managed the Avoca Pool for 5 years, was an Avon Sale Representative and most recently was an insurance sales woman and after care coordinator at Knudsen Funeral Home and Shelby County Monument in Harlan.
Susan’s many hobbies included planting flowers, reading, hosting holiday and birthday parties, helping at swim meets, spending time with her two daughters and granddaughters, holiday baking, watching the Food Network Channel, Trips to Okoboji, QVC, English toffee, and maybe one of her most precious and close to her heart would be to watch for cardinals and looking at rainbows after Charlie had passed away.
On Saturday, September 28, 2024, with her beloved family by her side, Susan passed away having attained the age of 77 years, 2 months and 5 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Charlie; brother John Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are her twin daughters Erin Ronnfeldt (Mike Yates) of Avoca, Iowa; Kara and husband Joe Boro of Omaha, Nebraska; 4 granddaughters: Adryan Bruce, Lauren Yates, Claira Yates and Elizabeth Boro; other family members and many, many friends.
