Ted Nielsen, the son of Charles and Doris (Robinson) Nielsen, was born on August 2, 1942 in Shelby County, Iowa. He was raised on a farm just north of Shelby until his parents built a house in town in 1976. When they moved to the house in the town Ted still worked on farms. Although he did work for Howard and Randy Lund’s seed business and the Shelby Vet Clinic, farming was always his thing to do, both a hobby and a job.
Ted enjoyed helping the Lund boys on their farms and painting tractors, and also helping Jerry Buck with his farm. His favorite tractor was a red International tractor. If he could drive an international tractor everywhere he went, he would. Instead he drove his truck up to the bar to visit his friends in the late morning or early afternoon, then he would grab a bit to eat and maybe take a nap before going out on the farm again to help one of his many friends. Once in awhile Ted would get away. He went to Missouri riding trails on his horse, Goldie, and he’d go deer hunting with his cousins and friends. “Ted was a hell of a shot”.
On Tuesday evening October 15, 2019 Ted passed away while doing what he loved to do; farming. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Gary Nielsen; and his niece Jodie Lynn Nielsen. Those left to cherish his memory are his cousins Lois Knop and her husband Larry of Hancock, Iowa, Richard Robinson and his wife Karen of Beardstown, Illinois, David Robinson and his wife Lori of Shelby, Iowa, and Darlene Flood of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and many specials friends whom he loved dearly.
