Terence “Terry” Ray Boeck was born in Denison, IA, September 19, 1959, the son of Virgil Herman Boeck and Violet Ella (Haase) Boeck. Growing up on the family dairy farm, he assisted in daily farm operations and enjoyed time spent with his siblings, especially shenanigans with younger twin brothers, Thomas and Timothy. He attended Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, IA where he was baptized and confirmed in his faith.
Schooling was completed in Denison, where he spent his high school years active in 4H, FFA and was proud to be a part of the 1977-1978 Denison Monarchs Class 2A Boys’ Varsity Basketball State Championship team. The team won each of their three state tournament games by four points, beating West Liberty (41-37), Maquoketa (37-33), and Grinnell (48-44) in the championship game.
Upon graduating high school in 1978, Terry attended Iowa State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education in 1982. He began employment as the Ag teacher with the Adair-Casey school, where he was also the FFA Advisor and coach for Junior High boys’ football, basketball, and track.
Terry was united in marriage to Brenda (Shroyer) Wilson in 1987 and from that union a daughter was born, Ashley Jean (Boeck) Nielsen.
Continuing in agriculture, Terry changed careers and started work as a sales representative with Purina Mills Feed Company while residing in Adair, IA and later moving to Anita, IA. Wanting to be closer to his family, which was always important to Terry, he moved back to Schleswig, IA and succeeded in building his own business, Boeck Agri-Services.
Throughout the years Terry was an avid supporter of the Iowa State Cyclones (being a proud alumni), Green Bay Packers, and St. Louis Cardinals, attending various events and being a grill master while tailgating.
Life would later bring him to Lake Panorama, IA, where he could be closer to his daughter, Ashley, son-in-law Kyler, and two grandchildren, Rylee and Chance. Being a proud “Papa” was the most important thing in his life.
Terence, Terry, Uncle T, Slacker, Dad, Papa (just a few of the enduring terms used to address the ornery man we all love), was a loyal, kind-hearted, and loving man with an unmatched sense of humor. He was stubborn, sure in his beliefs, and always said what he was thinking. You didn’t have to guess where you stood with him, because he made sure you knew.
Terry valued the same qualities he would show others. There was never a question how much he cared for his family and those close to him. Making those around him happy was what Terry loved in life, whether it was his grandchildren, daughter, son-in-law, siblings or their spouses, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, friends, or their families.
He will be remembered as a gracious host, always making sure everyone had a good time, was fed well, taken care of, and comfortable.
Terry was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, October 11th, at The New Homestead in Guthrie Center, lovingly cared for by his daughter, son-in-law, a sister, 3 of his nieces, hospice nurse, and the excellent staff that he very much appreciated and thought of as family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Violet, a brother-in-law, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends, whom all surely met him with a hug, handshake or joke.
With cherished memories, Terry is survived by his daughter, Ashley (Boeck) Nielsen, son-in-law Kyler Nielsen, and 2 grandchildren, Rylee Jean Nielsen (7) and Chance Karl Nielsen (3), who were the light of his life.
Siblings include Dennis and Norma Boeck of Morrison, IL; Larry and Annette Boeck of Denison, IA; Dwight and Carolyn Boeck of Denison, IA; Debbie Green of Schleswig, IA; Lanah Boeck of Denison, IA; Linda and Larry Matijevich of Polk City, IA; Thomas and Debi Boeck of Keokuk, IA; and Timothy and Carolyn Boeck of Green Bay, WI; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Terence was deeply loved and will be missed by many, as he was truly one in a million. Thanks for the memories! In celebration of your friendship to Terry, the family encourages you to wear team colors in support of Terry’s favorite teams!
