Theresa Rose Henscheid
September 11, 1929 — October 10, 2019
Theresa Rose Henscheid, daughter of Charles and Barbara (Schechinger) Wageman, was born September 11, 1929, on a farm near Westphalia, Iowa, one of fourteen children. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia, Iowa. Theresa attended St. Boniface Catholic School in Westphalia, graduating high school in 1947.
On January 11, 1949, Theresa was united in marriage to Virgil Joseph Henscheid at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia. They made their home in Westphalia and became parents of nine children: Mary, Joe, Nick, Ed, Connie, Steve, Dan, Mike and Jeff. Virgil and Theresa were active members of St. Boniface Catholic Church and took an active part in church activities. Theresa was a member of the St. Boniface Choir for 30 years. She was active in the Rosary Society, the Catholic Daughters, and the Sewing Circle. Theresa was a homemaker and worked in retail sales in Westphalia and Harlan. She enjoyed gardening and sewing, and especially enjoyed sewing and making quilts for her family. Theresa's social life included attending musicals, bowling, playing cards and golf, achieving a hole-in-one on May 31, 1992.
Theresa became a resident of Elm Crest Retirement Community on October 18, 2014. She died on October 10, 2019, at Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan, Iowa, having attained the age of ninety years and twenty-nine days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Virgil Henscheid, grandson Oliver Birdsong, brothers and sisters Tony, Cecelia, Sister Mary Ruth, Catherine, Anna, Charles, John, Adeline, Augusta, Agnes, William and Frankie. She is survived by her children: Mary and her husband Tom Anderson of Omaha, Nebraska; Joe Henscheid and his wife Mary Lynn of Des Moines, Iowa; Nick Henscheid and his wife Mary Pat of Omaha, Nebraska; Ed Henscheid and his wife Bev of Waterloo, Iowa; Connie and her husband Rick Birdsong of Herman, Nebraska; Steve Henscheid and his wife Audrey of Newton, Iowa; Dan Henscheid of Ankeny, Iowa; Mike Henscheid of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; and Jeff Henscheid and his wife Jessica of Trempeauleau, Wisconsin; twenty-four grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; her sister Sister Joan Wageman of Omaha, Nebraska; her sister-in-law Jane Rau and her husband Leo of Omaha, Nebraska; her sister-in-law Esther Wageman of Omaha, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews and many friends.
