Thomas Edward McDaniel, son of Arthur McDaniel and Bealuh (Milne) McDaniel Wilson, was born on July 18, 1949, in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He later moved with his family to Carson, Iowa, where he attended school. After school, Thomas worked several jobs before working at Griffin Pipe in Council Bluffs, Iowa, with the United Steel Worker Association where he earned several certificates for safety and length of time working.
On June 13, 1970, Thomas was united in marriage to Kathleen Marie Wilkinson at St. Patrick�s Catholic Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Three children were born to this union: Tammie, Mark, and William. After their wedding, Thomas and Kathleen made their home in Council Bluffs before moving to Harlan in 1983. Thomas continued to work at Griffin Pipe for thirty-eight years, retiring in the fall of 2007.
Thomas loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was very proud of his children and their accomplishments. Thomas enjoyed working on cars, helping his friends, and working in his yard. One of the most significant moments in his life was when he was able to take a Tiger Cruise on the USS Boxer with his son, Bill, from Hawaii to California. Thomas was even allowed to visit the bridge when he was on the Tiger Cruise.
Thomas died on Monday, March 15, 2010, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, having attained the age of sixty years, seven months, and twenty-five days. He is preceded in death by his mother, Bealuh, and his step-father, Leonard Wilson; and his father, Arthur, and his step-mother Lois McDaniel.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen McDaniel, of Harlan, Iowa; their children: Tammie McDaniel and her friend Ryan Schwery of Harlan, Iowa; Mark McDaniel and his wife Jennifer of Oakland, Iowa; William McDaniel and his wife Catrina of Harlan, Iowa; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his siblings: Ellen Stull of Omaha, Nebraska; Roger McDaniel, Sr. of Nevada, Missouri; Donald McDaniel and his wife Vickie of Phluggerville, Texas; L. Jean and her husband Rich Knapp of Omaha, Nebraska; Shirley DeLashmutt of San Antonio, Texas; Ben Wilson and his wife Teresa of Peoria, Arizona; Glenda and her husband Al Paulson of Fort Worth, Texas; Richard Wilson and his wife Candy of Oakland, Iowa; and Lisa and her husband Richard Garcia of San Antonio, Texas; nieces; nephews; other family members and many friends.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, March 20, 2010, at Abundant Life Church in Harlan, Iowa, with Rev. Jeff Erlemeier officiating the 10:30 AM service. Interment was held at the Harlan Cemetery with Joel Dirks, Kenneth Baxter, Michael Ratigan, Craig Wilkinson, Sean Sorensen, Roger Dale McDaniel, and Christopher Wilkinson acting as honorary casket bearers. Serving as casket bearers were: Rick Wilkinson, Ryan Schwery, Donald McDaniel, Rich Knapp, Ben Wilson, Richard Wilson, Stan Milne, and Lee Milne.
