Thomas Earl "Tom" Schumacher was born on March 2, 1950 to Mel and Unis (Greer) Schumacher in Defiance, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter�s Catholic Church in Defiance. He attended elementary school in Manilla and graduated from the Shelby-Tennant High School with the Class of 1969.
He worked on the farm and Western Engineering before attending machinist school in Kansas City. He returned to Harlan and began working at Harlan Manufacturing.
In 1972, Tom was married to Karen Kramer. Three sons were born to them: Thomas, Roger, and Dan.
He worked at several gas stations, Jacobs Tool, and had been at Paxton Mitchell in Omaha since 1989 working as a machinist. He had also raised hogs for a while.
Tom and Linda Peters were married on May 25, 1985 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca. He loved country western music and western movies, especially any movie with John Wayne. He liked playing cards and going to tractor pulls.
Tom died unexpectedly on Friday, November 4, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, having attained the age of sixty-one years, eight months, and two days. He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife Linda Schumacher of Avoca, Iowa; sons Thomas "Zig" Schumacher and his wife Jackie of Harlan, Iowa, Roger Schumacher and his wife Jackie of Tennant, Iowa, and Dan Schumacher and his wife Sarah of Harlan; six grandchildren; mother Unis Schumacher of Harlan, brothers and sisters: Galen Schumacher and his wife Barb of Huntington Beach, California, Berniece and her husband Russ O�Neill of Two Mountains, Quebec, Canada, Chuck Schumacher and his wife Coleen of Shelby, Iowa, Steve Schumacher and his fianc� Katie of Bristol, Tennessee, and Mae and her husband Brad Svendsen of Loveland, Colorado; other family members and many friends.
Rev. John Frost celebrated the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial with Concelebrant Rev. Larry Hoffman on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at St. Michael�s Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa. Honorary casket bearers were Mike Hope, Kerry Danker, Kirk Jacobsen, Dave Pahl, Scott Story, Rich Baer, and Dave Larson. Serving as casket bearers were Michael Schumacher, Cassie Schumacher, Toby Schumacher, Derrick Schumacher, Brent Schumacher, Curt Schumacher, Jodie Goodwin, Jim Schumacher, and Jen Schumacher. Interment was held at Graceland Cemetery in Avoca, Iowa.
