Veronica Cecilia Hodapp was born on September 26, 1923 to Henry and Rose (Mueller) Graeve on a farm near Earling, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and graduated from St. Joseph's High School with the Class of 1941.



On February 9, 1944, Veronica was united in marriage to Eugene Hodapp at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. There were eight children born to this union: Edward, Charlene, Carole, Roger, Cathy, Tim, Craig, and Julie.



In addition to raising her children, Veronica had a cleaning business and cleaned Iowa Western Community College and residential homes. She also ran an in-home day care. During the time Eugene operated his garbage business, she was his bookkeeper. She enjoyed going fishing with her husband as well as her family life. She was devoted to her church, attending daily Mass at St. Michael's and never missed any activity of the Graeve family. She enjoyed being with friends and daily trips to Mickel's Restaurant. In 2010, Veronica moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa to be near her family.



Veronica became a resident of the Hilltop Care Facility in Spirit Lake, Iowa where she died on Thursday, April 10, 2014, having attained the age of ninety-years, six months, and fourteen days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Eugene; grandchildren Aaron Rasmussen and Nicole Coleman and siblings: Alfons, William, Raymond, Harry, Rita, Helen, Margaret, Charles, Leo and Esther.



Survivors include her children: Edward Hodapp and his wife Kim of Arvada, Colorado; Charlene Jensen of San Antonio, Texas; Carole and her husband John Downing, of Coal Valley, Illinois; Roger Hodapp and his wife Joni of Osage Beach, Missouri; Cathy and her husband Walter Platz, of Ogden, Utah; Tim Hodapp and his wife Julie of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Craig Hodapp and his wife Mary of Thornton, Colorado; Julie and her husband Phil Pedersen of Okoboji, Iowa; 22 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; siblings: Irene Arkfeld of Panama, Iowa, Leonard Graeve and his wife Joyce of Harlan, Iowa; Al Graeve and his wife Mick of Earling, Iowa; Mary Agnes and her husband Stanley Korducki of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; James Graeve and his wife Mary Ann of St. Joe, Minnesota; Lawrence Graeve and his wife Colleen, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and Ruth and her husband Ray Korducki of Milwaukee; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.



Rev. John Frost celebrated the 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, April 14, 2014 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa. John Rosman accompanied Jan Rau and Maryalyce Dotzler. Serving as casket bearers were Kurt Jensen, Joshua Pedersen, Scott Platz, Cory Hodapp, Brandon Hodapp, Phillip Hodapp, and Troy Hodapp. Interment was held at the Harlan Cemetery.
