Vicki Hoogensen Salazar

Vicki Ann Salazar, daughter of Victor and Dorothy (Greve) Hoogensen, was born on May 25, 1949. Vicki attended country school and then school in Harlan, IA, graduating from Harlan High School as part of the "Class of 1967". She graduated from Dana College with a degree in sociology. Vicki was active as a cheerleader in both high school and college.
Vicki's first marriage was to Richard Rueschenberg and lived in Oklahoma, Maine and Louisiana while Richard was serving in the military.
Vicki was united in marriage to Manny Salazar on October 9, 1993, living in Harlan, IA. Vicki worked in various roles at the Harlan Flower Shop, REM, Variety Distribution, Dairy Queen, and H&R Block amongst others.
Vicki was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, IA. Vicki loved the color purple, enjoyed collecting owls and was a loving cat owner. She loved to bowl, getting together with her birthday group and being surrounded by her family and friends, especially "the gang". Vicki loved going out to eat at restaurants in the area, where owners and staff knew her by name and her special order. Vicki's smile, laughter and friendliness will be missed by all.
Vicki passed away August 9, 2021 at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs attaining the age of 72 years, 2 months and 15 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Victor and Dorothy Hoogensen.
Vicki is survived by her husband Manny Salazar of Harlan, IA; brothers Ken (Patsy) Hoogensen of West Des Moines, IA and Bob (Judy) Hoogensen of Harlan, IA; sister Linda (Michael) Jennings of Indianola, IA and sister-in-law Faye (Braden) Pollack of Long Beach, CA, nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
