Victoria "Vicky" Kohles
November 21, 1959 — December 25, 2017
Victoria Ann Kohles, daughter of Robert and Jeanette (Wolken) Mertens, was born November 21, 1959 in Storm Lake, Iowa. She was baptized on December 8, 1959 in Fonda, Iowa and confirmed on March 12, 1972 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Defiance, Iowa. She graduated from Irwin Kirkman High School with the class of 1978. She went on to study art at University of Northern Iowa for a year.
On March 21, 1992, Vicky was united in marriage to Jack Kohles in Omaha, Nebraska. They lived on the farm outside of Defiance, where she raised her four children: Stewart, Megan, Bob and Cristina.
Vicky enjoyed gardening, art work, music, cooking and shopping. Primarily she loved spending her time as a homemaker. She also worked with her sister Jennifer for 20 years creating arts and crafts in Dunlap, Iowa. She cherished the time spent with her family, children and grandchildren.
Vicky died on Monday, December 25, 2017 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, attaining the age of fifty-eight years, one month and four days.
She has left to cherish her memory, her husband of 25 years Jack Kohles of Defiance, Iowa; children Stewart Anderson and his wife Morgan of Fonda, Iowa; Megan and her husband Evan Kerns of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Bob Anderson and his wife Athena of West Des Moines, Iowa; Cristina Kohles of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren Ava Kerns, Lucas Kerns, Mika Anderson, Jonathan Anderson; her parents Robert and Jeanette Mertens of Fonda, Iowa; sisters Jennifer and her husband Richard Hein of Fremont, Nebraska; Cindy and her husband Roger Dirks of Fonda, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.
