Vincent Hansen
April 5, 1917 — March 4, 2017
Vincent Jens Hansen, son of Barney and Ann (Koos) Hansen, was born on April 5, 1917, on a farm north of Walnut, Iowa. He grew up around the Walnut area attending country school in Monroe Township Shelby County, Iowa. He graduated in 1934, from Walnut High School and then started farming with his parents on the family farm.
On June 24, 1944, Vincent was united in marriage to Phyllis Lamer in Walnut, Iowa. They became the parents of two children: Jeff and Claudia. After their marriage, they farmed around Walnut. In 1962, they bought their own farm southeast of Walnut and farmed until they retired.
Vincent was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Walnut, serving on the session for several years. His passion was farming and taking care of livestock. He was known for doing things the hard way and would not use the microwave. Vincent never left food on his plate, did not go to town much except for church, and a big trip according to Vincent was a trip to Atlantic, Iowa. He enjoyed attending school events of his children, playing cards with the neighborhood card club, and spending time with family and friends.
On April 18, 2016, Vincent left the farm and became a resident of Avoca Speciality Care in Avoca, IA. He died there on March 4, 2017, having attained ninety-nine years, ten months, and twenty-seven days. Vincent was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother Dale Hansen.
Mourning the loss of Vincent, are his children Jeff Hansen and his wife Kathy of Walnut, and Claudia and her husband Ralph Yribar of Bennington, Nebraska; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Frances Hansen of Atlantic, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and many friends.
