Violet I. Fiscus
October 6, 1921 — August 19, 2018
Violet Irene Fiscus, daughter of Nels Christian and Johanna (Jensen) Swensen, was born October 6, 1921 in rural Harlan, Iowa. She attended country schools around the Harlan area. After graduating from grade school, Violet worked for families cleaning their homes, caring for the sick, elderly, and newborn babies as a live-in nanny.
On December 21, 1943, Violet was united in marriage to Wayne Fiscus of Kirkman, Iowa. Two sons were born to this union: Terry and Kelly. Violet remained at home to raise the boys, care for their homestead and work side by side with Wayne on the farm.
Together, Wayne and Violet enjoyed watching local racing and NASCAR, antique auctions and attending their grandchildren's and great grandchildren's school and sports activities. Violet loved cooking, baking and spoiling her loved ones with treats. She was a long time member of the United Methodist Church in Kirkman and the United Methodist Women's group. Although she was never formally taught to play the piano, Violet could play by ear and often played at night right before her children went to bed. She also was an avid cake decorator and very proud of her Danish heritage. Violet's greatest joy were her family, especially her grandchildren.
Violet passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Elm Crest Retirement Community, attaining the age of ninety-six years, ten months and thirteen days. In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband Wayne Fiscus, son Kelly Fiscus, daughter-in-law Carolyn Fiscus, siblings Ina Caroll, Ethel Dent, Norman Swensen, Dagny Svendsen, Christena Johnson, and Mae Heilig.
She is survived by her son Terry Fiscus of Kirkman, Iowa; grandchildren Lyn & Troy Ahrenholtz of Defiance, Iowa; Shilo & Jeff Bladt of Harlan, Iowa; Dustin & Angie Fiscus of Blue Springs, Missouri; Jeremy & Amy Fiscus of Fremont, Nebraska; Seth Fiscus of Harlan, Iowa; 9 great-grandchildren Emma Ahrenholtz; Anna Ahrenholtz; Hannah Bladt; Isaiah Ahrenholtz; Dalton Fiscus; Samuel Bladt; Eli Fiscus; Mya Fiscus; Maira Fiscus; daughter-in-law Joleen Fiscus of Harlan, Iowa; siblings Donald & Joann Swensen of Bellevue, Nebraska; Joy & Tom Salmon of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.
