Violet J. Norwood
July 2, 1938 — March 7, 2012
Violet June Norwood was born on July 2, 1938 to Katie (Hall) and August Kuster, Sr. on the family farm near Guthrie Center, Iowa. She attended Baker Country School No. 1 through the eighth grade when she left to help her parents on the farm.
She was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Norwood on March 24, 1956 at the Methodist Church in Guthrie Center. Two children were born to this union: Kathleen and Robert "Robby". After their marriage, they moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where Bob worked for the Cargill Company loading grain in barges.
Violet kept busy with the children and their activities and keeping the house. She was a devoted mother and wife and enjoyed the simple things in life. The family lived in several locations including Coon Rapids, Harlan, Atlantic, Guthrie Center, and Jefferson, Iowa. Most recently, Violet had lived in Earling, Iowa, as a resident of the Little Flower Haven Nursing Home.
Violet was admitted to Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan on Monday, March 5, 2012 and it was there that she died on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, having attained the age of seventy-three years, eight months, and five days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Kathleen, her son Robby, and one brother, August Jr.
She is survived by her husband of nearly fifty-six years, Bob Norwood of Earling, Iowa; brothers Ray Kuster and his wife Carol of Guthrie Center, Iowa, Ben Kuster and his wife Gloria of Guthrie Center and Richard Kuster and his wife Connie, also of Guthrie Center; other family members and friends.
Pastor Dean Porter officiated the 11:00 AM Memorial Service on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa. A private inurnment will be held at a later date at Bear Grove Cemetery in Guthrie Center, Iowa.
