Virginia Jean Rold was born on March 20, 1925 to Frederick Fox and Eva Martindale in Randolph, NE. She was raised and attended country school in Harlan, IA. Virginia was baptized at Altamont Baptist Church in Harlan, IA.
Virgina found the love of her life when she met Elvin “Ozzy” Rold. They were married at Altamont Baptist Church on December 26, 1943. To this union 6 children were born, Lawrence, Betty Jo, Barbara, Debra, Mary, and KayJay. Virginia loved helping Ozzy with his custom farming work. They would shell corn, haul cobs, and many other jobs. She also worked as a cook at the Baptist Nursing Home in Harlan, IA. Her favorite job was raising her 6 children and eventually taking care of her grandchildren.
Virginia had many hobbies. One of her most valued hobbies was crocheting. She made many afghans for her children, grandchildren and friends. She also loved doing puzzles with her daughter, and spending quality time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Virginia passed away peacefully on January 1, 2023 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, IA attaining the age of 97 years, 9 months and 12 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick Fox and Eva Bladt; daughter, Betty Jo Nichols; siblings, Clarence Fox and Marion Ruth Henricks; grandchildren, Sean, Adam, and Patricia and great-grandchildren, Tricia and Dodge.
She is survived by her children Lawrence (Pamela) Rold of Harlan, IA, Barbara McClelland of Phoenix, AZ, Debra (John) Gorden of Queen Creek, AZ, Mary Rold of Atlantic, IA, and Kay Jay (Lori) Rold of Harlan, IA; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, siblings; Mary Anna Knouse of Mission, TX, and Fred Fox of Harlan, Iowa; many other distant family and friends.
