Vivian Mae Popp was born on the Rasmussen Family Farm, northeast of Vail, Iowa, April 4, 1919, the daughter of Hans and Mathilda Stehlik Rasmussen. She was raised on the farm and received her education in the local rural schools and Vail Public High School. Following her education Vivian was employed as a domestic worker for her family and others in the Vail area. She resided and cared for her parents on the family farm until their deaths. On February 24, 1981, Vivian was united in marriage with Raymond Popp in the chapel of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Sioux City, Iowa. They made their home on Vivian’s family farm. Raymond died suddenly on August 12, 1986, and Vivian continued to make her home on the farm. In October of 2005 she moved to Eventide Senior Housing in Denison where she resided until moving to Eventide Lutheran Home. Vivian will be remembered by family and friends for her excellent baking skills, especially her breads. She was a caring soul always willing to help those in need. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Denison. Vivian died Friday evening, November 30, 2012, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 93 years, 7 months and 26 days. Including her parents and husband, Vivian was also preceded in death by her sister, Pearl McCoy. Those remaining to cherish her memory include one niece, Vicki and husband, Scott Fischer, other relatives and friends.
