Walter Charles Gaul was born to Ferdinand and Dorothy (Rau) Gaul on February 6, 1958, in Harlan, Iowa. He was baptized at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Portsmouth, Iowa and confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic grade school and graduated from Harlan High School.
Walter married Donna Pryor and to the union their three kids were born, Matthew, Heather, and Jonathan. They were later divorced, but remained friends. Walter was a working man and started his working career on the railroad from 1977 to 1979. From there, he worked at Western Engineering in 1979 and the Harlan Pork Plant from 1979 to 1990. He then worked at Boyer Valley Rendering Plant from 1990 to 2001. Then, after moving back to Harlan, he worked at Pamida and did lawn care.
Walter had many hobbies including, cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs, taking family vacations, riding on his motorcycle, visiting his grandkids, going camping and fishing, watching movies, visiting historical sights, playing with remote control airplanes, cars, model cars, and just enjoying life.
Walter passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, in Harlan, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Ferdinand Gaul; brother, Daniel Gaul, and brothers-in-law, Dan Greer, Frank Hauck and Jeff Stokes.
He is survived by his children, Matthew (Sarah) Gaul of Tea, SD; Heather (Jesse) Hardy of Council Bluffs, IA; and Jonathan (Kirstyn) Pryor of Moorhead, IA; 6 grandchildren, Ashlynn, Janet, Lyrik, Maverick, Katelyn, Brynlee, and 1 on the way; siblings, Shirley Hauck of Omaha, NE; Jean (Daniel) Bieker of Harlan, IA; Ronald (Paula) Gaul of Harlan, IA; Larry (Maxine) Gaul of Omaha, NE; Carol (Jeffrey) Walton of Harlan, IA; Joan Gaul of Harlan, IA; Laurie Gilbert (Randy Blohm) of Audubon, IA; Marian (Clayton) Bretey of Harlan, IA; Lisa (Brooke) Coseboom of Catherdal City, CA; Janis (Timothy) Thompson of Omaha, NE; and Dave (Angie) Gaul of Chillicothe, OH; sisters-in-law, Debbie (Ross) Gaul-Rusch and Nancy Gaul; other relatives and many friends.
