Warren Lyle Larson was born November 27, 1924 on the family farm in Kiron, Iowa to Edner G. and Pearl Ruth (Beaumont) Larson. He graduated from Kiron High School in May 1942.
After graduation, Warren joined his father working on the family farm. He was also a 4-H member and raised Poland China hogs as his project. As Warren’s project grew, Edner began to help with them, until the Larsons had a whole drove of Poland China hogs. Warren and his parents worked wonderfully together for many years, until his father could no longer help with the farm in 1968. After the death of his father, Warren became his mother’s caretaker for 14 years. He retired from farming at the same time, devoting his time to his family and his faith.
Warren was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Kiron and always went to Sunday School. He was the Sunday School Treasurer for 25 years and had a record attendance of over 70 years, with the exception of 1936, which was the worst winter endured. Warren accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1939, during his last year in Vacation Bible School. He also sang in the church choir for 54 years, for the morning and evening services. Warren also served three terms as the church’s Financial Secretary, a total of 15 years. Warren and his best friend Wilma (Hedstrom) Anderson played piano duets for many years for their church family, and he enjoyed serving the Lord, and the congregation.
Warren passed away Monday, October 2, 2017 in Denison, Iowa, attaining the age of 92 years, 10 months, and 5 days. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Velma and Waldo Winquist.
He is survived by his niece, Colleen (Scott) Jones of Liberty, MO; great nieces and nephews, Lindsey, Madison, Creighton, and Zach Jones; other relatives and friends.
