Wayne Jacobsen

Wayne Harold Jacobsen, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on February 9, 2025, at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa. Born on June 12, 1944, in Avoca, Iowa, to Wilbert and Bernice (Hansen) Jacobsen, he grew up with the rolling fields and quiet corners of the countryside molding him into the devoted farmer and family man he became.

Wayne took great pride in his life as a farmer, pouring his heart and soul into the land he loved. He married the love of his life, Becky Bintz, on June 20, 1965, at the Minden United Church in Minden, Iowa. Together, they shared countless memories on their farm. Wayne's big smile and kind personality left a lasting impression on all who met him.

Wayne was not just a farmer; he had a range of passions that filled his time beyond the fields. He enjoyed golfing on warm summer days, casting his line for fish in tranquil waters, spending time with family and friends at Lake of the Ozarks, and tending to his beloved garden. As any good farmer knows, there's nothing quite like nurturing life in the soil while watching things grow. He also crafted beautiful woodwork, making treasured items for family and friends. Wayne was a proud dairy farmer and loved the animals he cared for. He milked over 1 million cows in his lifetime! His heart was as full as his hands were busy.

Education was important to Wayne, who began his journey in a one-room schoolhouse in Knox Township before attending Hancock School and ultimately graduating from AvoHa High School in 1962. A lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca, Wayne found strength and community in his faith, having been baptized at English Lutheran Church. You could often find him at local school sporting events, cheering on the young athletes, embodying the spirit of community support. Wayne was a lifelong learner and took classes at Iowa Western Community College to prepare and file taxes, and to sell insurance.

Wayne is preceded in death by his mother and father, Wilbert and Bernice, and his daughter-in-law, Jodi Jacobsen. He leaves behind his loving wife, Becky Bintz Jacobsen; his sons, Kevin Jacobsen of Avoca, Iowa; Robb and wife Amy Jacobsen of Avoca, Iowa; his brothers, Loren and wife Janis Jacobsen of West Des Moines, Iowa; Roger and wife Laura Jacobsen of West Des Moines, Iowa. Wayne was also blessed with eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, with one more on the way - a true testament to his legacy of love.

In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorials be directed to them and will make a donation to the Viking Booster Club.
