Wayne B. Nelsen

Wayne Bradley Nelsen was born on November 17, 1945, to Walter and L. Lorene (Carroll) Nelsen in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was baptized at the Danish Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa. He graduated from AvoHa with the class of 1963.
Wayne was united in marriage to Virginia Neve on February 16, 1964, in Hancock, Iowa. Two daughters were born into this union, Jill and Jodi.
Wayne worked for Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha, Nebraska for 38 years, retiring in 2001. He enjoyed golfing, NASCAR, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, playing poker, his Arizona golfing trips with his buddies, and traveling with his wife. Wayne was also a lifelong Iowa State University football fan.
Wayne passed away on November 8, 2013, in Omaha, Nebraska. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Cassidy Dethlefs.
He is survived by his loving wife Virginia; his children: Jill and her husband Roger Dethlefs of Omaha, Nebraska, and Jodi and her husband Dave Osborn of Omaha, Nebraska; two grandchildren: Connor and Tessa Dethlefs; his siblings: Lonn (Theota) Nelsen of Avoca, Iowa, Janiece (Harold) Ronnfeldt of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Vaughn (Janette) Nelsen of Omaha, Nebraska; his aunts, uncles, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 11, 2013 at the Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca, Iowa from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Interment will be held at the Graceland Cemetery in Avoca, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Histiocytosis Association of America.
