Wesley John Stehlik the son of Joe Stehlik and Lillian (Clauson) Stehlik was born March 17, 1931, in Vail, Iowa. He passed away Saturday, June 22, 2024, in Denison, Iowa.
Wesley attended rural school in Milford Township through the 8th grade and graduated from Vail Highschool in 1949. He worked on the family farm until being drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War where he served from 1953 to 1955. He returned to the farm and farmed until retirement.
Wesley was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kiron where he served as an usher and auditor for many years. He also served as secretary of the church building committee that planned the construction of the present church and was the last member of that committee to pass away.
In his younger years he was active in sports. His senior year in high school he was on the All Boyer Valley Conference Basketball team. After high school he played basketball and fast pitch softball with several area town teams. He later became an avid bowler and once bowled games of 289 and 290.
In his spare time, he liked to attend ball games, his two favorite teams were the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Cleveland Indians. Wesley also enjoyed auctions, the Iowa State Fair, and to socialize with friends at Burger King.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Francis and sister-in-law Olive.
He is survived by three nieces Michelle (Kevin) Powers; Sharon Siddon; and Lori (Terry) Malone; many other relatives and friends.
Interment will take place at a later date at the Kiron Cemetery in Kiron, Iowa.
