Born in Pipestone, Minnesota on August 18th,1944. Parents were Carl and Vadis Pankonen. She was one of 12 children. She attended school in Pipestone, Minnesota. She met the love of her life Darwin Edgecomb which happened to be her next door neighbor growing up. They were married in Kansas on December 18th, 1961. They resided in Pipestone for a couple years and then moved to Akron, Iowa where they lived on a farm where Darwin was a farmhand for a year before moving to Avoca, IA in 1966.

Wilda was a stay at home mom along with working as a bookkeeper for Dar's Repair until Darwin passed whom she missed dearly until the day she passed. She then became a Daycare provider in her home for all the grandchildren and neighborhood children whom she loved as her own. Wilda enjoyed doing crafts, decorating for every holiday especially Saint Patricks Day being her favorite holiday, spending time with her children and her grandchildren & great grandchildren. She also liked embroidering, jigsaw puzzles, playing board games, and watching the game show channel. She also was a huge Minnesota Vikings fan. Whenever a football game was on you would find her dressed in all her Vikings attire. Collecting cardinals was one of her favorite collections which you saw surrounding her every day. She liked spending time outside and enjoyed her love of flowers and watching her birds on her bird feeder. She was an huge fan of Elvis. Wilda and her very special friend Vicki Buffington have traveled, laughed, cried and created many, many memories together. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

On Sunday, July 2, 2023, Wilda passed away at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, having attained the age of 78 years, 10 months and 14 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Darwin; two infant sons; son and daughter-in-law Tim and Rhonda Edgecomb; one great-granddaughter; siblings Terry, Brenda, Patricia, Ricky, Steve, Lori and Coby.

Survivors include her children Kimberly Kyle of Avoca, IA; Sandra (Tony) Michalak of Avoca, IA; Dawn Myers of Avoca, IA; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings Linda Dapp of Pipestone, MN; Debra Pankonen of Pipestone, MN; Scott Pankonen of Mount View, CA; Todd Pankonen of Sioux Falls, SD; very special friend Vicki Buffington of Pipestone, MN; nieces and nephews, other family and many friends.
