William "Bill" Dagnaes Hansen, son of William and Mary (Mathiasen) Hansen, was born on January 14, 1915, in Wessington, South Dakota. He attended Polk County #8 country school. After his dad died, Bill took over the family farm and continued to farm throughout his life.
On February 27, 1952, Bill was united in marriage to Bertha Christensen in Kimballton, Iowa. Two children were born to this union: Freda and Ivan. After their wedding, the couple made their home outside of Jacksonville, Iowa, where Bill continued to farm.
When Bill wasn�t busy working outside, he enjoyed visiting with his friends at Petersen Brothers in Jacksonville and Mickels in Harlan. Bill and Bertha also enjoyed traveling and going Polka dancing. One of Bill�s greatest joys was his grandchildren and he cherished spending time with them.
Bill never really retired from farming, but gradually slowed down and passed his responsibilities to his family. He continued to live on his farm until February when he became a resident of Salem Lutheran Nursing Home in Elk Horn, Iowa.
Bill died on Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, having attained the age of ninety-four years three months and fourteen days. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Ida and Sylvia.
He is survived by his wife Bertha of Elk Horn, Iowa; his son Ivan Hansen and his wife Janice of Harlan, Iowa; his daughter Freda and her husband Brent Littleton of Valley Falls, Kansas; three grandchildren: Shawn Hansen, and Sarah and Stephen Littleton; his sister Arlene Hansen and her special friend Robert Kroman of Elk Horn, Iowa; other family members and friends.
Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, with Tom Gaer officiating the 10:30 AM service. Interment was held at the Jacksonville Cemetery in Jacksonville, Iowa, with Glyn Thomas, Monte Hansen, Scott Larsen, Jim Thygesen, Mark Petersen, and William Carter serving as casket bearers.
