William Frank Webster was born January 6, 1927, in Greensboro, North Carolina, the second of three sons, to Dewey and Dorothy Bates Webster. He attended public schools in Greensboro, graduating from Greensboro High School in 1944. Bill enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps in October, 1944, and was stationed at Scott Field, Illinois. Upon his honorable discharge in November, 1946, he returned to Greensboro to attend Kings Business College where he met Helen Louise Snyder. They married June 19, 1948 and two daughters were born early in their marriage. Later, Bill and Helen adopted two sons. Bill met Christ when he was 24 at a Billy Graham Crusade in Greensboro in October of 1951. He was introduced to The Navigators in 1961 by his brother Jim and began a lifelong love of Scripture memory. This also led to God calling him and Helen to move their family to Norfolk, Virginia, for training with The Navigators in 1966. They moved many places serving the Lord through The Navigator ministry including New Zealand and Alaska. His first wife, Helen, died in 1991, and he retired in 1993. Bill moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1994 to be close to his daughter Sandy and her family. He began corresponding with a fellow member of The Navigator ministry, Vangie Hedstrom. They became friends, married and moved to Kiron, Iowa, where she helped care for her mother. Vangie’s family and friends quickly adopted this southerner and helped him adapt to his new Iowa home! His love of Jesus and kind spirit endeared him to all who knew him. Bill had a quick wit and teasing personality. He loved studying the Bible and sharing his love of God’s Word with others. He also enjoyed singing, listening to classical music and traveling. In 2012, Bill and Vangie moved to Denison, Iowa, where he had since resided. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Kiron where he served as a Deacon and taught Adult Sunday School Classes. He was a former member of the Amercian Legion Post 383, Kiron, Iowa. Bill died Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Eventide Lutheran Home, Denison, Iowa. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 86 years, 5 months and 26 days. Including his parents, Dewey and Dorothy Webster, Bill was also preceded in death by his daughter Frances, his first wife Helen, and his two brothers, Red Webster and Jim Webster. Memories of Bill will be cherished by his wife, Vangie, his daughter, Sandy Washburn, son-in-law James Washburn, sons Tommy and his wife Joan and Will, grandchildren: Jeremiah (Susan), Brady (Ashley) Jessica and Kelly Webster; and his great grandchildren: Ally, Drew, Megan, Luke, Avery, Cash and Noah. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 6, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Kiron, Iowa, with Pastor Bruce Kaihoi officiating. Renny Austin read the scripture readings and the reading of the obituary and sharing of tributes was provided by Jeremiah Washburn, Brady Washburn and Jessica Washburn. Music for the service included the congregational hymns of “To God Be The Glory” and “When We All Get To Heaven” with Mrs. John W. Larson serving as accompanist. Special musical numbers included a vocal trio of Glee Crippin, Glenda Larsen and Gail Lacey singing “It Is Well With My Soul”, solo selections of “The King Is Coming”, Nick Crippin, soloist, and “People Need The Lord”, Deb Lindgren, soloist. Inurnment was at Kiron Cemetery, Kiron, Iowa. Immediately following the services the family invited everyone to join them in the fellowship hall for fellowship and a meal catered by Hy-Vee assisted by the First Baptist Social Committee. Memorials have been established to The Navigators, First Baptist Church, Kiron, Iowa, or the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
