Wray Thomas Carroll was born in Harlan, Iowa on October 11, 1966 to John Kenneth and Audrey Maxine (Rosenow) Carroll. He was the 7th of eight children to this union. He attended Walnut High School, was actively involved in sports, school activities, 4-H, and FFA and graduated with the class of 1985.

After graduation, he attended Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) in Council Bluffs, Iowa, earning an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Diesel Technology in 1987. He began working at Stempel Implement in June of 1987, and recently completed 29 years of employment with John Deere in Avoca, now Horizon Equipment.

While attending IWCC, he met Ann Renee Turner from Anita, Iowa. They were married at the Central Church of Christ in Anita on September 3, 1988. To this union three children were born: Garrett, Delaney, and Erin. Together they worked to fix up their home and build a livestock operation. The whole family worked side-by-side to get the work done.

Wray was passionate about 4-H and mentored many children thru his “Wray Carroll Sheep School”. He touched so many lives with his amazing patience. He was also a skilled mechanic and enjoyed the challenge of a job well done, often putting in endless hours to do the job right. Wray had a brilliant mind and was always ready with a clever comeback. He will be remembered for his smile and sense of humor. Even after a long battle with cancer, he never lost his optimism. He was thankful he was able to live another three years and experience all the milestones with his family, and fellowship with his friends.

Even though he worked hard, he also played hard, always finding time to play pool, cards, or hunt turkey or deer. He was still planning the next hunt the day before he passed.

Wray passed at home surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, having attained the age of forty-nine years, eleven months, and 9 days. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Roger, and sister and brother-in-law Faye and Dean Androy.

Wray is survived by his wife of 28 years, Ann Carroll of Avoca; son Garrett Carroll of Denison, Iowa; daughters Delaney Carroll and Erin Carroll both of Avoca; brother Charles Carroll and his wife Mary of Joplin, Missouri; sister Lyla and her husband Mark Schroder of Hancock, Iowa; sister Carla and her husband Kent Johnk of Hancock; brother Wade Carroll and his wife Terri of Amarillo, Texas; sister Gayle Carroll of Avoca; father-in-law and mother-in-law Eldon and Mary Turner of Anita, Iowa; brother-in-law Royce Turner and his girlfriend Deb Knowles of Exira, Iowa; sister-in-law Dawn and her husband Paul Harder of Hancock, Iowa; brother-in-law Brooke Turner and his wife Pallin of Clarinda, Iowa; sister-in-law Jyl Turner of Griswold, Iowa; aunt Mildred Petersen of Parkersburg, Iowa; aunt Wilma Jean Klindt of Avoca; uncle Everette Carroll and his wife Sandra of Avoca; uncle Donald “Slim” Langer of Avoca; uncle Marland Mattox of Omaha, Nebraska; uncle Michael Kaufman of Ralston, Nebraska; aunt Dorothy Ann Carroll of Avoca; many nieces and nephews, family members, and friends.
